Interior Design Magazine joins sponsors of standards project
Interior Design Magazine has once again demonstrated commitment to quality interior design education. The magazine recently announced a grant to support a major standards revision project currently underway by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formerly FIDER).
The project involves a comprehensive examination of the standards used to evaluate and accredit academic programs. A review of trends and consideration of changes in practice and higher education have introduced a new vision of the ideal graduate. The project will continue with multiple surveys of the interior design community to transform the vision into measurable standards.
For more than a decade, Interior Design Magazine’s Hall of Fame Dinner has generated a major annual donation to support accreditation of interior design academic programs. This year, the magazine is donating additional funds and joining a prestigious list of project sponsors. According to publisher Mark Strauss, "Interior Design Magazine is proud to sponsor the Standards Revision Project. It is fantastic that the project entails such a comprehensive, far reaching, and collaborative process. We believe that in helping to set the new standards for interior design education CIDA sets the stage to grow opportunity for the entire design community."
Council-accredited interior design programs report that standards for education are by far the most influential factor in curriculum development. “The profession demands more of its practitioners every day, lending increased urgency to our work to update standards,” noted Joe Pettipas, chair of the Council for Interior Design Accreditation Board. Revised standards will go into effect in 2009. More information about the project is available at Announcements.
